What is Transparency?
Transparency in Mississippi Government is a concerted effort to provide visibility, openness, and accessibility to state government financial activity for Mississippi taxpayers as mandated by the State Legislature. As part of our continuing effort to set new standards for transparency and accountability in state government, the Department of Finance and Administration now provides access to a variety of financial data that is updated regularly. Revenue, expenditures, payments to city and county governments, contracts, and travel expenses are updated daily. Workforce information is updated monthly. Some of the expenditure data is considered private or protected under state and federal laws. If a payee/vendor/customer name is protected by law, the vendor name will be displayed as "Confidential" throughout the queries.
Budget
A user can view appropriation, expenditure, and encumbrance summary information for all state agencies as reported in the Statewide Automated Accounting System (SAAS). The budget information may be viewed by agency, by expense type, by functions of government, or by fund type. This information is updated daily after SAAS nightly processing. All queries run for the current budget year will reflect the last day the information was updated. All queries run for a prior budget year will note as of June of the budget year, e.g., agency by expense type report run for budget year = 1999 will show 'As of Month June 1999.'
Expenditures
A user can view information about vendors doing business with State of Mississippi agencies. The vendor information is updated on a daily basis and includes state expenditures by agency, expense type, vendor or fund type and warrant information and statewide expenditures to cities and counties.
Revenue
A user can view a monthly report of general fund tax revenues as reported in the Statewide Automated Accounting System (SAAS) for the State of Mississippi.
Travel
A user can view travel paid for employees of State of Mississippi agencies.
Contracts
A user can view contract information by agency name, contract type, start or end dates, contract service type, and contract number for State Agencies for Budget Year 2009 forward in compliance with the Mississippi Accountability and Transparency Act of 2008. Data about these contracts is displayed on this website as well as in PDF documents. Some contract data is considered private or protected under state and federal laws. That data will be summarized to provide that privacy while also providing the user with accurate details.
Leases
A user can view lease contract information by agency name or contract number information for State Agencies for Budget Year 2009 forward in compliance with the Mississippi Accountability and Transparency Act of 2008.
Grants
A user can view grant information by agency name or grant number for State Agencies for budget year 2009 forward in compliance with the Mississippi Accountability and Transparency Act of 2008.
Workforce
A user can view monthly statistical payroll and salary information on State of Mississippi agencies. The workforce information provided is an employee count, a salary/fringe report and salary statistics by occupation.
